Old Christians Notes 25th June 2012
Junior hurling We played our first match in the City championship against Crecora on Sunday evening at Claughaun. The match was evenly contested in the 1st half, and we led at half time 1-5 to 0-5.
Crecora had a better start to the 2nd half scoring 5 points. We showed great heart and determination to fight back and a goal scored by Derek O’ Hanlon after a great pass and catch from Dave Clohessy put us back in front. The remainder
of the match was very competitive and scoring chances were hard earned. We missed some opportunities to increase the lead and eventually Crecora scored the last few points to win by 1-14 to 2-7. It was an encouraging performance with all the players giving 100%.

Old Christians Notes 28th May 2012
Under 10 hurling: We hosted our re-arranged hurling blitz last Friday night. Mungret and Granagh Ballingarry were our visitors. We were blessed with glorious weather and in excess of 50 children played hurling up until near darkness. Mungret teams were the masters on the playing pitches and displayed wonderful skills throughout all their games. Our own boys will have learnt a lot from this experience and will have taken huge encouragement when winning our last game. Our panel of players were, Ger McGrath, Seamus Madden, Raymond Griffin, Conor Keogh, Thomas Dillon, Cian Hayes, Brandon Fleming, Sean Byrnes, Cian McGrath, Josh O'Keeffe, Marcus Moran, Gearoid Malone, Ronan Fitzgerald, Aidan Kirby. Well done to all, a special thanks to Teresa Byrnes, the Griffin Family and Jennifer Madden who provided the much needed refreshments to the large attendance. Also to the FAS workers who had the pitches in splendid condition. Well done to all, it was a great success.
Cul Camp: Its approaching that time of year again, we are hosting our camp on July 2nd to 7th. We will commence in booking places next week.
Guess The Score Competition: Special thanks to all members who sold cards, it was a great success. The result in Thurles was disappointing but Limerick gave everything and all Limerick GAA followers can be proud of them and hopefully we can build from this display. Any winners from the competition will be announced next week.
We would appreciate it if anyone who has old / modern photo of teams, club activities or club related events could forward them to us or e-mail them to [email protected] for inclusion on our website www.oldchristiansgaa.com which was designed to incorporate all teams over the last 50 years. All photos will be returned to the owners.

U 10 Hurling: Our re-arranged hurling blitz is on Friday 25th of May at 6:45pm. Mungret, Granagh Ballingarry, and Murrroe Boher are calling into Rathbane. We hope that all families will come out and support the boys.
U 16 Hurling: We travelled to Templeglantine last Monday night to play in the last group match before the break for the exams. Playing with the strong breeze in the first half we took a while to settle until Ian Coates scored a point to open our account. However our opponents matched us throughtout the opening half and took a deserved lead at half time despite one of their players receiving a red card just minutes before the break. Playing into a very strong breeze in the second half our we certainly played with more heart and began to dominate the play but it was not showing on the scoreboard, Dylan Blackhalls goal put us within touching distance of the home team but we never got in front and to be honest we did not deserve to win the game and lost on a score line of 1-12 to 1-08
. We had some good individual performances but not enough of them to win against a team like Templeglantine. The panel of players were as follows Jack Banks, Jake Byrnes, Conor Madden, Adam Purcell, Ross Gardiner, Kieran Bennett, Noel Whyte, Shane Walsh, Ian Coates, Mark Fitzgerald, Nathan Clancy, Jake McNamara, Dylan Blackhall, Billy Hoare, Kevin Howard, Dylan Lyons, Cian Maher, and Marcus Kiely. It was a disappointing result before the exam break and means we must win our three remaining games to Ballyhoura Gaels, Murroe Boher and South Liberties. Best wishes to all players who are preparing for state exams, training and challenge matches will be organised for players who are not doing state exams.
Guess The Score Cards, must be returned to club officers by Friday 25th of May.

Under 16 hurling. We played Askeaton last week in the third round of the u 16 hurling championship. The match was played in Rathbane on a damp and blustery evening. Playing into the strong breeze in the first half, we struggled in many areas and gave away numerous needless frees and were lucky to be only trailing by 6 points at half time. However the second half was a different story, Shane Walsh blasted a close in free to the net early in the second half and we never looked back after that and ran out comfortable winners in the end with a scoreline of 5-13 to 0-08. The panel of players were, J Banks, A Purcell, D Barry, J Byrnes, K Bennett, C Madden, R Gardiner, S Walsh, I Coates, D Blackhall, N Clancy, J McNamara, K Howard, B Hoare, A Cregan, D Lyons, C Maher, N Whyte and Mark Fitzgerald. Under 10 Hurling. After playing in the first hurling blitz of the year in Ballingarry the previous week, Na Piarsaigh travelled across town to play in a challenge hurling match last Friday in Rathbane. Again we had a great turnout, and managed to field two teams. Na Piarsaigh however proved to be a too strong in 3 out of the 4 games. However it was a most useful workout, and opened our eyes how much we need to improve. We had outstanding performers in both teams
and all our players will have learnt from these matches. Again special thanks to the parents who supported the boys. The panel of players included: Ger McGrath, Conor Keogh, Ben Dillon, Johnathan Casey O'Donoghue, Sean Byrnes, Ben O'Shaughnessy, Jason McSweeney, Gearoid Malone, Zachi Kamel, Josh O'Keeffe, Jackson Brophy, Sofian Kamel, Marcus Moran, Thomas Mullins, Ray Griffin, Stephanie Bowen,Adam Ryan.
